revisiting talents…

thank you for visiting, tis good to see you, and what a beautiful sunshiney sunday it is, so in my quest to raise money for Arcadia Gardens I have worked hard on so many things, a lot of time is spent improving what I have already set in place, I am really pleased with the new shop and a couple of days ago I had begun designing a range of hats, just waiting on sample though I am sure it will be here tomorrow, however this got me thinking, if you go back say 13 years, I used to make hats and sell them, just on ebay, it was a short lived venture as I had 4 kids to feed and a mortgage to pay and hats are a very labour intensive item, and they take around 3 to 6 weeks to make, that’s just one hat, because I prefer to use freeform felting and I always make from scratch, no moulds, no pre formed base, the whole thing from the beginning, freeform, and they are usually what’s termed ‘statement hats’ in other words I get to use my imagination more than I am allowed ordinarily πŸ™‚ and all this means there was no way at the time I could charge the price that each hat took to produce, like I said 4 kids to feed, can’t spend 6 weeks making a hat that may cost 6 weeks weeks wages so at that point even though I did sell some I stopped making hats and returned to sewing, dance costumes always sell. Now here we are today and I am thinking well I could make a hat and auction it, because I am now in a position where the money I am raising is for Arcadia Gardens ( and I my two oldest are now enjoying happy lives of their own so I only have two to feed, and me I suppose, so three to feed) and I want to raise as much as is humanly possibly so I decided to just give it a try, it is also good as a complete change from the laptop, and I confess I do enjoy it πŸ™‚ Now the most exciting bit is always sourcing the materials, with my hats I have full control, please know I do love my print company and am really grateful for their part in all this, the clothes will still be the main items available, the statement hats are just a little aside created solely by lil ole me with the intention of raising money for Arcadia Gardens, back to the treasure hunt πŸ™‚ or finding the raw product, I always look for ethically raised and usually small business sources, i have some favourite people that raise their own sheep and hand dye their wool and oh my gosh I cannot tell how wonderful their wool is I literally want every item they have πŸ™‚ and there is something I just love about receiving real wool, not spun, just lovely locks of hand dyed in wonderful colours wool, during the past week I went shopping for all I would need and through the last two days I have worked really hard and produced most of the base, told you it takes ages πŸ™‚ now I still don’t own a phone that can do things, well apart from text and call, my kids tell me I am embarrassing using a ‘burner’ phone, I just don’t like phones that do things, I like to ring or text that’s it, last phone I bought had an extra function , it could do calculator as well, I did not like it, bought another that only calls πŸ™‚ it’s just one of my little foibles ok, πŸ™‚ I don’t like phones. So what I am trying to say is I don’t have any pictures to show you until my second daughter visits, as she is the only one with a fully functioning modern phone πŸ™‚ my youngest has a fancy phone but apparently it can’t take pictures on account of she filled it with her pictures and she needs access to every single one ALL the time, so can’t fit any on for me, that’s what she tells me anyway. my oldest has moved far away with her fully functioning phone but I don’t like to talk about it on account of I miss her terribly so I just get sad, we have discord but it’s not the same. My son doesn’t own a phone he is like me πŸ™‚ we don’t like them, so yup out of the five of us we have one phone that can do things πŸ™‚ soon as said phone arrives I will show you some pictures, now this first hat I thought I would try and be subtle and so have designed using pastel shades, but oh the next one will be, um, different πŸ™‚ so with that being said I best go freeform πŸ™‚ until later here’s a wonderful video I found on twitter of how working together it just makes everything better πŸ™‚

Thank you to all our supporters; every reader, every customer, every friend of Arcadia Gardens is truly appreciated, together we can build a better world
